vMotion Traffic Separation

I was explaining the vMotion process to someone for the first time and explained how the migration technology transports a running virtual machine from one host to another. I love my time on the whiteboard, and I simply illustrate the process from each perspective of the core resources of the virtual machine: CPU, disk, memory and network connectivity.

Requests for New Hub of Web Addresses: IPv6

The Web has an ostensible small pool, which houses all the addresses on the Internet. IPv4 (Internet Protocol version four) pool was made with a vision that it’ll serve around four billion addresses. Thinkbroadband called 17 uk broadband service providers a few weeks ago to ask if they supported IPv6 and we were quite surprised by the results to this simple question "Do you support IPv6?" "Is that a TV channel?" "I know quite a bit about computers but I've never heard that before." Read the full article here

Concern over lack of IPv6 uptake as IP address D-Day looms

Time is running out for the IPv6 address protocol to be finalised, with reports that the current IPv4 system could release its last remaining batch of new addresses as soon as September next year.

According to the latest estimates, there are only around 300 million IPv4 addresses still available, and theyre being used up faster than ever thanks to the explosion of web-enabled mobile devices such as smartphones. At current rates, claims a report by the BBC, the last batch of addresses will have to be released by 9 September, 2011.

IPv6: Circling the IPv4 Wagons for a Last Stand

The last remaining stocks disappear from the shelves more quickly than ever before . . . IPv4 addresses that is.

As the ARIN met in Toronto in April, an inordinate amount of time was spent yet again debating proposals on how to handle the dwindling stock of IPv4 addresses. I get the distinct impression that some people will still be tabling proposals and discuss the issue long after the last IPv4 block has been allocated by IANA and even the RIRs themselves.
